Networked Objects
In the Networked Objects module, we had to create a robot that conveyed an emotion. This emotion had to be visible in the robot's behavior and design. My robot was a happy little dog made with Arduino sensors. Who wags its tale and showed other signs of happiness.
Free Space
In the Propful module/workshop, we collaborated with second-year CMD students. For this module, we had two weeks to create a short film. We chose the topic of time travel. In the first week, everyone was tasked with making a randomly chosen prop for the film, without coordinating who made what or why. I made a vintage bottle rack filled with magic potions. In the second week, we used all the props created to develop and work on the film's story. I was one of the directors for this film.
Time based storytelling
"Flowers on the Horizon" is a short film about friendship. In the Time-Based Storytelling module, we were challenged to create a short film no longer than one minute.
integrated smart systems
In the Integrated Smart Systems module, I worked with two other group members to design "Band met je plant." Band met je plant is a system that uses an Arduino and an app. By connecting the Arduino sensors to the plant, we were able to measure how much water the plant needed and relay this information through the app. This allows you to always know when your plant needs water.
SLB by design
For the SLB by Design module, I used photography to highlight an important issue. Children are starting to wear makeup, use social media, and get phones at an increasingly younger age. Is this good for them? Does it take away the short time children have left to truly be kids? To explore this, I created a makeup mask that looks like it was made by a child, I photographed my niece in the playground.
sensors & senses
SYNC-ON is an Arduino project made for the module sensors & senses. It is centered around the senses. It is designed with a heart rate sensor to maintain the connection between friends during a busy and noisy concert or festival. Through sight and scent, users share a unique experience together.
SYNC-ON was displayed at the Sencity Festival 2024 selected with 5 other projects.
2D design
In the 2D Design module, we were tasked with depicting the dangers of AI through photography. In my final photo, it becomes immediately clear that the person who was once sitting behind the computer is now inside the computer. This symbolizes how quickly AI can completely take over.
system hacking
For the System Hacking module, my studentgroup and I sought out the friction in an existing, functioning system. We investigated and questioned whether the system was truly working well. Through exaggeration, we created a few images that depicted what really happens on the work floor and how tips are distributed—fairly or unfairly. I also did the photography for this project
extra
As an extra workshop this year, I chose Worldbuilding. In this workshop, we learned how to physically create a world using all sorts of small, random objects. I found it a unique and interesting experience.
